Letter to UN Secretary-General Ban-Ki Moon Print E-mail
Letters

UN Secretary-General Ban-Ki MoonPDKI Secretary-General's letter to the UN Secretary-General Ban-Ki Moon - "the people of Iran expect from the United Nations to follow a path that will lead to the halting the execution of more political prisoners and the releasing of all prisoners of consciousness."

Your Excellency, As you are well aware, the regime of Islamic Republic of Iran was founded on the basis of discrimination and apartheid and has continuously and systematically violated human rights since its inception in 1979. As a sectarian state, the regime of Islamic Republic has subjugated its dissidents to various forms of violence and mistreatment.

Britain's Prime Minister, Gordon Brown gestures during his monthly news conference at 10 Downing Street on November 10, 2009 in London, EnglandWhy on earth has Gordon Brown seen fit to apologise to Jacqui Janes over the letter of condolence which he sent to her following her son's death in Afganistan?

This ungrateful woman seems not to realise that our Prime Minister is a busy man and that she was honoured by his taking time to hand write a personal note rather than letting secretarial staff prepare a standard letter for signature as was undoubtedly done by her other correspondents: Prince Philip, Buckingham Palace, the Defence Secretary and the dead soldier's regiment.

Sincerely,
John Eoin Douglas

Burqas: Preventing the Temptation Print E-mail
Letters
Written by James Brewster
Sunday, 01 November 2009

Two Afghanistan women wearing Burqas. It occurred to me the rise of Islam may be a blessing in combating Britain's demon: paedophilia. You see, Muslim men require women to
wear conservative clothing such as the burqa, which prevents the temptation of onlookers.

We've noticed a rise in assaults against our children by predatory paedophiles whose eyes are consumed by perverse lust for children that you or I would merely find adorable, in the most innocent regard.

Is it not time we took a lesson from our Muslim friends and dressed children in burquas for their good, and to finally eradicate paedophilia?

Freedom Shown to Triumph: Print E-mail
Letters

Reuters: Anti-War Demonstrator in LondonAt Anti-War Demo - Rather than condemn the anti war demonstrators for their distasteful display , the best response we could all do is to celebrate it!

The greatest freedom we have in our country (with the exception of Councillors who are subject to the kangaroo courts of the Standards Board) is the freedom to express our views, however distasteful they are to others.

Essex Police's Apology Print E-mail

ImageEssex Police's apology to Terry Lubbock, the father of the man found dead near entertainer Michael Barrymore's pool, is to be applauded.

But should they not also be apologising to Mr Barrymore? Their bungled investigation almost certainly means that he will never have a chance to prove in a criminal court his innocence of any wrong doing and the resultant pointing fingers will continue to damage his reputation and
career until the end of his days.

Sincerely, John Eoin Douglas

Lack of Bottle Print E-mail

ImageDrinks "watchdog" Portman Group should be ashamed of themselves for their seeming vendetta against Brewdog, the Fraserburgh based
Scottish Craft Brewers.

Having previously withdrawn their criticism of the jocular marketing for the brewery's Riptide, Punk IPA and Hop Rocker beers, Portman have now condemned Brewdog's Speedball which apparently shares a name with the potentially lethal practice of combining heroin and crack cocaine to give both sedative and stimulant effects.

Portman may claim that "the blurring of alcohol and illicit drugs fosters unhealthy attitudes to drinking and trivialises drug misuse", but real ale drinkers are somewhat unlikely to move to less pleasurable drugs like heroin and cocaine after trying Brewdog's excellent product. And if users of illegal recreational drugs were to turn to beer instead, surely this would be beneficial?

Brewdog should bring out a product called Portman - having immeasurably low alcohol content, a lack of any discernable body and an unpleasant aftertaste. In other words, a total waste of space.

Sincerely, John Hein
Edinburgh, U.K.
